I finally got it working again by doing the following: I tried all of the possible fixes listed in this thread and the problem persisted. But I was just getting the default "Search my stuff" result and clicking on that just gave me "Something went wrong." Normally if I typed "sound" it would show various sound settings. My problem was that the search menu would pop up, but it wouldn't find anything. Just to add another possible solution in case it helps anyone.
